When i took my first steps in Estate agency 40 years ago the industry was a much more formal place.
I’ll never forget my very first valuation as a trembling 17 year-old.I knocked on the door, it was opened by an elderly gentleman. Then disaster struck. I couldn’t remember his name.He helped me out of my nerve induced amnesia by telling me: “It’s Mr Barber, as in haircut.”Back then it was essential for male agents to have ‘sensible’ haircuts.
That unwritten rule seems to have changed a fair bit over the years. It’s not uncommon to see young agents sporting
‘Peeky Blinders’ type barnets accompanied by a sprinkling of tattoos and very sharp suits.Now I’m not professing to be Vidal Sassoon but the feedback we get is that clients are more comfortable and confident in our more ‘mature’ look.
Everyone in the office has bought and sold on several occasions so we have a real empathy with our clients.

At Claytons we’re much more than trendy styling and sales spiel. We’ve plenty of substance which comes from decades of experience and dedication. (Plus a very sensible barber).

Claytons blog was created to give light hearted but hopefully useful property related thoughts and advice. David started his career at former family firm, Weller Hill Hubble aged 17. The company was later purchased by General Accident property services and David went on to become their youngest ever manager and Area Director. However, disenchanted with corporate life he decided to return to his old roots and start a personal, service driven Estate agency. In 1991 Claytons was born and has grown into one of Watfords most well known and successful businesses. Outside of work David , who still lives locally is married with 3 children and a cockapoo called Teddy.
